Ragers

Overview of the Ragers

"What point is there in existence? I decided a long time ago that I will take what I want, drink what I can, and have as much fun as I can imagine with the time I have before it's all over."

Lore

The ragers have continue to bolster their numbers and are rapidly expanding their reach. What was at one point an isolated group operating out of ORCA that would raid fellow orcan worlds has reach not only the Union of Stars and Corre Republic, but pockets are believed to be within the Faust Union, Karldra, Commonwealth, and possibly also in Polau territory.

No one has an accurate story for how the ragers came about. Most of it is shrouded in stories that now border on myth or legend. The somewhat agreed upon story is that Captain Julian Herod of Exordium dealt in trades and cargo. His ship would move goods and he didn’t much care if it was legal or not. What mattered was being paid, which didn’t always happen. Some saw that since they came from such a nothing planet that they could be pushed around. What could they honestly do in return? They should just be grateful they were even being spoken to as a human.

It is said that Herod became incredibly ill after a run and could not afford treatment. One rotation he had a devilish fever and he started to hallucinate monsters. His crew tried to aid him as best they could, but their efforts were in vain. He violently convulsed and suddenly died. As they stood there, uncertain of what to do, it is said his eyes opened and he just stared at his crew. If there is such a thing as being able to see the light of a man’s spirit in his eyes Herod’s is gone. His eyes are hollow in a way that leaves any who meet him today with a sense of dread.

After he recovered his entire demeanor changed. He was willing to take more risks on smuggling and was seen as being more apt to violence. One deal with a crime lord went sideways like it had plenty of other times before and he elected to not pay Herod and his crew for a job. With little recourse at his disposal, the Captain and his people assaulted the ex-client’s residence, killing everyone in their path and stealing as many valuables as they could carry. This was to be the first of many more plundering. One thing he always did though was evenly split all of the loot across every member of the ship. From the lowly cook to the captain all received equal wages. Due to this behavior though he demanded absolute devotion to him and the rest of the crew. If you stepped out of line you were seen as the ultimate traitor and were dealt with in a manner of savagery that would encourage the others to stay in line. Rumors of Herod’s monstrous acts has been both glorified and embellished to where the truth of such incidents is hidden.

Over the span of a few months Herod began assaulting other vessels and added them to his fleet. Word spread of a maniacal pirate lord that shared great riches with his people which did encourage some of the worst individuals in space to join the ragers ranks. New crews appear all the time and it has forced numerous governments to label them as a high-level threat. This is compounded because no one knows just how large of a fleet or ground force Herod has at his disposal. All manner of equipment is used in their operations even up to larger WarMechs.

Multiple attempts have been made to locate Herod but it has become increasingly more difficult. He rarely makes direct appearances on raids and more low-grade pirates are using the rager name to instill fear in their prey. The Bureue of Central Intelligence is increasing their efforts in eliminating ragers in Republic space, and they are confident they will bring an end to their terror.
